ABOUT DOMINION ENERGY CENTER

Built as a Loew’s Theater in 1928, Dominion Energy Center was designed as an “Atmospheric Theater”, including elements of Moorish, Greek, Italian, and Baroque design. It was primarily a movie house and hosted the mid-Atlantic premier of “Gone with the Wind” in 1940. The building features high ceilings, giving it the illusion of an outdoor amphitheater’s open skies, and was also used for some vaudeville and stage performances in the 30s and 40s. Located in the heart of the city’s downtown business district, the venue transitioned to a performing arts center in the 1980s, and became Richmond CenterStage in 2009, after a multi-million-dollar renovation, and was ultimately named Dominion Energy Center. The 179,000-square foot complex includes three performance venues, including the historic 1,800 seat Carpenter Theatre, Rhythm Hall, and Gottwald Playhouse, and is home to numerous resident companies, including the Richmond Symphony, the Richmond Ballet, the Virginia Opera.
